Angel babies for Thanksgiving!

My angelfish has been laying eggs every 15 days for two months. She finally let the male near the nest, and we got hatchlings on Thanksgiving! We clipped off the egg-covered leaf, tied it to a rock, and put it in a net breeder at the top of the tank. In doing so, a lot of the babies fell off onto the net floor. Will they survive down there, or will only the ones still on the leaf live? Since most angels lay on vertical surfaces, I would think that lots of eggs fall off anyway, but I am really new to all of this. I am going to see if I can get some baby brine shrimp today since they should become free swimming soon.

Also, there are a few unfertilized eggs among the hatchlings that have become fuzzy - is there any way to remove them without disturbing the babies?

I don't know that any of them will live to adulthood, but it sure is fun!

Wow, good luck. I've always loved Angels, but I've stayed away from them because when I first started fish, I had 4 fish. 3 Angels and 1 cory catfish. Their names were Squishy, Pango, and Chilly. The cory's name was KFC.(Kanga, Fidget, and Creamer, no one could decide, so I did). Then one died, and then, like dominoes, the others died. I've been no where near angels since then. But, enough of my stories, good luck!

So sorry you lost all your angels! I lost a few at the beginning too - bad stock, I think. One survived, and then later on I bought another and somehow ended up with a breeding pair on accident. :)

I'm trying to hatch some baby brine shrimp since none of the LFS carry them anymore. We'll see how this goes. The angels have nearly doubled in size already! They're not free swimming yet, but it won't be much longer until they are. I feel like I'm playing experimental chemist. Hopefully the brine shrimp will hatch in time. If they don't, does anyone have feeding suggestions until then? I live in the Bay Area, so you'd think SOMEONE would sell live BBS, but I went to a bunch of aquarium shops without luck.

what size tank were the angels in Guppy? Even if you had just one angel, I believe, they need at least a 30 gallon tank...and I -think- they even prefer deeper water? Could be wrong though.. Ideally, they should be in a 55 though I think.

They were fine for a week, and they were in a 1.5 gal, the same one my current fishes are in.

Well, I would guess that's more than likely why they died. You can't just throw any fish in a tank because it's smaller than the tank. They probably died from the high bio load or stress from being in a tank so small. =/ I would suggest if you see a fish you like, research research research.

Well, Mama angel showed just how poor a mother she is by sucking most of the babies through the mesh net and eating them. But I still have 20 or so clinging onto the leaf for dear life!

Also, the brine shrimp hatched in under 20 hours!! There are literally millions of them, no exaggeration. So as soon as these little guys are free swimming, they will have lots of tasty treats. Hopefully the shrimp don't grow quickly so that the fry can still eat them in a few hours' time.

Poor Angels... I hope that they can survive. Possibly, seperate the mama and the daddy?

Next week I will get another tank set up for the babies, but right now I only have the option of the breeding net. The remaining ones are safe from harm, thankfully!
