hay there,
just popping in a quick question before i go out.
has anyone had YoYo loaches breed in therir tanks ???
as i am wondering what my biggest one is up to,
it is eating, however it has dug a pit for its self inbetween
the glass, and some wood in the gravel the loach can be seen, and
is as alert as always,if if does come out for food,
it does what it needs too, then shoots back to the same spot.
any ideas, :)

There are lots of reported cases that yoyos were gravid however there isn't a single report about them naturally breeding in captivity except hormone-induced cases.

an awful lot of chasing, and rubbing against eachother
shimmying. :)

Keep an eye out for eggs then, but I wouldn't hold my breath or be optimistic.

They may have mated but hatching the eggs if they actually lay any eggs is the tough bit.

Yes, about 4 years ago, I had a spawning group. I received them from a friend with the understanding that I pass them along to another of his friends after I spawned them or a year, which ever came first. I only had the group for about 2 months. They spawned in slightly hard water, pH 7.2, and did very well. I had about 120 total fry survive.

There have been many claims made over the internet about the breeding of this loach or that loach. Some have evidence to back it but most of them have proven false.

I could have just as easily said "Yes, I hatched 200 of them in slightly acidic water." but I didn't.

I've shown this thread to my friends at Loaches online. I can't wait to see what their reaction will be.

i have a similar concern with one of my yoyos, "edna". "she" is very fat and has been seen canoodling a lot with another loach, "zoidberg". i wonder if they're up to the same thing....
