Kind of an odd issue here but it's something that's started to occur lately.

I have a female RTBS in my tank and lately she's taken to living in her cave more. On top of this she spends a great deal of time in it upside down. No signs of distress, excellent color, still eating, and spend about half her time right side up but I'll still see her hanging out in her cave, upside down. She's recently full grown and in the tank with no other RTBS.

Does anyone have any insight on this behavior?

She's been like this for a month now. If she were dying she'd already be dead. Also as I stated her color is still perfect and she's showing no signs of distress. She's still acting perfectly normal aside from the upside down behavior.

Back in the day when I had rainbow sharks, I'd see them go upside-down to graze on algae from time to time, sometimes for extended periods. Just going out on a limb here, but my guess is that these fish aren't as sensitive to being at odd angles as other fish are (you never see a tetra upside-down, for example) and maybe yours in particular just likes that orientation, or something. I don't think you should be too worried.

Hello!

my red tail shark always swims out of her cave upside down and seems to do it for fun! She swims normally but when she’s in and out of her cave, she’s upside down! She’s been like it for at least 6 monthsis now roughly 7 inches and huge! I wouldn’t worry and put it down to the fish and it’s personality!!!!
