Your dwarf gourami is the likeliest victim of their fin nipping habits. Pentazona barbs are your better options. They look a bit like tiger barbs but aren't as nippy as the tigers.
Tiger barbs are more suitable for a more active tank. As long as you keep them in groups of over 6, they will keep to themselves, but there is still the chance for them to get nippy.
i would agree, tiger barbs are not the best choice. they need a large area to swim, and lots of buddies (some say 6 is good, but the more, the better). most other barbs are peaceful though. i like cherry barbs for my peaceful tank, they never fight.
I agree, cherry barbs are really playful. I've got a "school" of 8 in my community fish tank and they hang out in the tetra schools and play tag with each other and I've never seen them even nip the guppies.
