Is a 20 gallon long a suitable home for a small gold fish? It's cycled and has a good filtration system. It's not long term, just until I can find someone with a pond or bigger tank. Should I get an air stone since they use lots of oxygen? He's very small, not even 2 inches. Sorry, normally I would have done research before getting one but he was used for a classmates science experiment and in desperate need of a home.

depends if he is a fantail or common. Fantails can live in a 20g longterm although I wouldn't reccomend it, but commons need atleast 75g long term

How long will you be able to rehome your fish? Fantails need plenty of room. A 20g will be fine for at least a few months but if the fish is alone by itself, it will not be happy at all.

I don't plan on keeping him for over a month, probably less.

Ah good. A 20g should be fine. If your filter makes turbulent movements, no need to get an airpump.
