Unhappy Sick Goldfish with Red Scales, and not able to swim?

Hello Everyone,

Please help me, i have added 2 photos of my goldfish and his current problem. I didn't notice it till today, but my dear goldfish has been laying down on his side and is having issues swimming with the large red scales on his left side. He currently lives by himself in a 10 gallon tank. Please if anyone has an ideas on what is happening to my gold fish and how to treat it, you will be very helpfully. Thank you again and have a great day.

Hi and welcome to TFK.

It looks like your goldfish has an infection on his side. This is commonly caused by poor water quality. Could you fill out this stick and post your answers here? Diagnosis Form - Read this before you post. All he might need is some clean water and a larger tank as goldfish grow rather large and are quite dirty fish.

It is either infection like koimaiden said or could be a result of them lying on its side. Gravel can cause irritation to the scales if there is some excessive bottom sitting...

Hope treatment is going well

Agree with the others.
What I recently read from a few places is that a good solution for wounds like this.
Take some of his tank water and put it in a bucket, and move him in there. You will need some iodine (like the medical kind for people) and a soft paintbrush. Just take it and brush it on the wound. You can do this daily. Iodine is great for wounds, but don't put it in the tank water, just give him a few minutes in the bucket with it on and put him back in the tank.

Most likely a water change is in order. For now change out 25% of his water and fill out that form.

10 gallons is a little small for a goldfish. Is he a fancy goldfish or a comet?

taking a break from fish-keeping.
3 lovely male betta still keep me company.
