Rosey Barbs: Is this love or loathing?

For the last 20 minutes I've been watching 2 of my 3 rosey barbs beat the crap out of each other. Or are they breeding? Or are they 2 males fighting for the female? I don't know, but these barbs were the first in my tank more than 3 months ago and have been very quiet, but now suddenly 2 of them are trying to kill each other, or making sweet love - I don't know. Help?

I also have three barbs, but mine are gold barbs and they are also doing that. I wish someone would reply because I would also like to know this. Did you ever find out? If so, please let me know! Thanks!

Hi is there a difference in colourbetween the two,
as that may give an indecation if it is mating
behaviour,or getting a pecking order.

dorsal fin.
Female: Golden colour no red.
