Rainbowfish

I just got 5 Rainbowfish. I think they are all the Dwarf Neon Rainbowfish (praecox). But I have one that looks different than the others, and what the pictures say. Its got black tipped fins rather than red/orange. And seems much more slender. Also it is just a little bigger than the rest, and its eye seems bigger also. Anyone know if this is a different strain of rainbowfish than the praecox? or is it just one that has different colorings. (by the way, all of them were bought at the same pet shop, and from the same tank, and the owner said they were from the same breeder. I just want to make sure its not a different breed than the others before I try to breed them.

Sounds like maybe a madagascar.


If it is, take it back and get another praecox. It would be happier with others of its kind. I once got a silver tipped tetra with a batch of Diamonds (which were sold to me as Lemons, go figure) and the fellow at the fish store traded it right out for me.

no thats totally not it. This fish has the same body and fin shape. Its just a tad bit more slender and black fins. Also the black band down the middle only extends half way up its body from the tail. And that band is much thicker than that fish u showed me

Could be McCullochi. Could be any of half a dozen others. Really would take a picture to know for sure.
