Hi, I only have 1 leopard danio left, in with 4 guppies and 5 cories, 5 ghost shrimp and 1 snail. Should I remove it or get it some company? How will it do by itself? It swims with the guppies but sometimes chases them as well. Will it school with zebra danios?
What happened to your other danios? I'd make sure w/e killed them has been taken care of before adding any new ones.
I'm pretty sure your leopard would school with the zebra's and they have similar temperaments but if it seems to be alright and looks happy playing with the guppies I wouldn't worry about it too much. You'd need to have about 6 of them if you wanted to make a good 'happy' school.
Ah, then I'd add a couple a week until you get a good sized school going if you wanted to make him feel at home. I'd say you'd be able to fit about 5 or 6 more in your aquarium (35 gal?) without overloading it.
I have 3 leopard longfin danios and 2 zebra danios. The zebra danios school with the leopard danios just fine. Some times they chase each other around, but that's about it. they don't terrorize each other.
Danios can live to two or three years with proper care, foods, maint on tank ,filter, etc. If fish were used during (cycling ),, is possible they were subjected to ammonia which can shorten a fishes life considerably.
