Are my danios ok?

I've 6, 3 leopard and 3 zebra and 3 look like they are ready to pop so I'm assuming 3 females and 3 males. My worry is, is that the females have been very round now for a very long time... is it a sign that there is something wrong with the tank water or just that I have 3 fat fish?

I'm not looking to breed but I heard that they are very good breeders so its made me worry a bit about the water quality. I have used those tetra water quality test kit and the colours are all in the green figures, so I'm a bit puzzled.

Thanks for any advice.

Could you post your water parameters? Have you seen the fish in question poop recently? They might be constipated or could even have dropsy.

If your water parameters are all checking out ok, it's more likely that you've just got some chubby, pregnant females. I know mine stay pretty plump all the time. I'm pretty sure mine spawn all of the time, but since they're in a community tank and do nothing to care for their eggs or fry, I think all of the eggs get eaten pretty much the moment they're laid.

A picture would help determine whether you've got a sick fish, or just a plump female.

For some reason I can't upload the picture on here, it doesn't send anything so this is the next best thing:

As for the parameters:
pH = 6.8
Nitrites = 0
Nitrates = 10mg/l
GH = between 175 to 280ppm (test says >10od but <16od)
Temperature = 27oC

I recently did a water change last week.

It doesn't look like dropsy, and its not really bulging like it would if they were constipated. Looks like they are carrying eggs?

And just before you laid dead weight upon its shores, I stung you in the face for that's the nature of my core.

Thanks Little-Fizz

I've never seen any evidence of spawning and I've had them for a year. Is that normal?

Those definitely look like some pregnant females to me. I wouldn't be worried. I'm pretty sure my danios spawn all the time, it's just that the eggs get eaten practically right as they're laid so it's hard to really tell what's going on.

Had a panic yesterday as I thought one of the fat ones had died and then I noticed I 4 thin fish instead of 3! Must be eggs, so now I'll keep my eye on the remaining two since I know that they should become skinny again shortly.

Thanks for your help. I feel much happier now.
