hey so i had a couple dojo loaches in my african cichlid 30 gal. they'd been living in there fine for about 3 months. and this week they both un expectedly died. When the first one died i did a massive water change. but the otther one died a couple days later. i checked for ich but it wasn't there on them or any of the other fish. I just don't get it.

Sorry to hear about your loaches. Could you let us know how long the tank has been running, what the other inhabitants are, tank maintenance routine and your water readings for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate?

What species are these cichlids? You are mixing the loaches with the wrong fish. First of all, dojos are temperate species so it is not surprising they don't live long in tropical conditions. Secondly, a lot of African cichlids are nasty so loaches if bullied constantly eventually die from severe stress. Third, your tank is overstocked. African cichlids need a bare 55g minimum to avoid territorial disputes.

a couple of dojo's shd be in a much bigger tank....they grow to be 15 inches!
Think they can live in a heated tank tho, but its not ideal. And what isn't ideal is no good for me. Basically what was said in the post before mine
