I love Goldfish and the like. I've never had a regular, slender-bodied one, though, because of space requirements. I've wanted to set up a pond for a while too. But at both my parents' houses, there are separate reasons why I cannot:
Mom's:
-no backyard (unless you consider a slab of concrete/deck a yard)
-neighborhood frequented by stray cats and sometimes raccoons
Dad's:
-any space big enough is in too close proximity to the pool
-dog might take a swim...
-Turkey Vultures and other birds
Both places are prone to freezing during the winter, quite literally.
So then I thought "well I've seen indoor waterfalls, why not an indoor pond?" and shortly after realized how much effort (and money) that would take and the question of space that could afford a gaping pit.
But then I saw a thread of breeding fish in kiddie pools and it dawned on me: Koi/Goldfish Kiddie-Pond!
I have a room in this house that is temporarily occupied, but it would make the perfect fish room some day. I could move most of my tanks down there and possibly move a moderately sized pool in too! But I need some advice/knowledge before I dare do this.
What type of pool material should be used?
How big should the pool be?
Should I add gravel or sand and rocks?
Should I even do this?
I leave this topic up to you guys; maybe you can shed some light for me (and if you feel I need to know anything else, please share).
