I think I may have to rehome this guy. CAE

here is the story. Hubby bought me a me beautiful african cichlid for my birthday. While he was there he also bought a tiny CAE, he thought I could put him in my 2.5 gallon planted as I have been having a fit with algae. I have never owned one and didnt know anything about them. I dropped him in the 2.5 gallon and then started researching today. I obviously can not keep the little guy in there and I think he may get eaten if I put him with the cichlids, he is only about an inch and a half for now. I have read these can be aggressive, and for now he is hiding in the foliage so no probs yet.I was just wondering if anyone thinks he will be ok for a week in there? I wont be able to get to the LFS before then. I would put him in my biorb but with the rocks in there I am afraid I would have a fit getting him out again. WDYT?

He'll be fine there temporarily for a week. Then rehome him.

Use the 2.5g as a grow out tank. When he gets big enough, move him. He could stay in the small tank by himself almost indefinitely. But, You sound as though you need an excuse to get a new tank.

:D Who me??? Look you can not FORCE me into another tank even though I have the room for another in the dining room corner, even if I did see them at wal-mart today and they were fairly priced and I have all the other equipment I would need. Such as gravel, a heater and a ton of decorations!! You FF people are tank pushers!!!

haha
BUT SERIOUSLY he is soo adorable! I bet if.... I cylcled up another tank.....and I let him be for now..............

Aww, I'd return him now. My CAE is occupying a 10G tank of his own, and I'll need to upgrade at some point. He can be cute and silly, but he's a lot less endearing now that he's gotten meaner. I've been trying to find him a good home for a while now, and NO ONE wants him. Believe me, bring him back now while he's still small and you have the chance.

Yes I have made up my mind he will go back. My betta and him had a little bit of a disagreement over the sheltered back corner of the tank and I have had to put the divider in there. No one was hurt but Sam (betta) got stress lines for a few hours.
