Flying Fox

I just acquired 2 of these yesterday and so far they have settled in lovely. I have read they are peaceful bottom feeders but I have also read that they are territorial and can turn nasty. Has anyone had any experiences with these fish before, good or bad?

Thanks :)

I have one. I purchased him wanting Siamese Algae Eaters, (Crossocheilus siamensis), not Flying Foxes (Epalzeorhynchos kalopterus). These fish are always confused and mislabeled at the LFS. Out of the three I purchased, 2 were SAEs and one was a Flying Fox. The trio pal around together and I've never seen an ounce of aggression out of him. Very peaceful. He's full grown. Maybe because he has the company of the SAEs he's mellow? I catch the three of them chasing each other (most often the three of them just hang out together, resting together on the leaves of my Red Tiger Lotus) but they leave all my other fish alone. JME...

Thats good to know :) I was getting worried because I have read that these fish have even harmed plecos but mine seem to be fine so far surfing the current and keeping my sand clean :) I was going to take them back because the thought of them harming my bettas or any of the other fish just isnt worth thinking about but I have fallen in love with them, they are such cute little fellas lol

How do I know whether I have SAE or flying foxes, is there a way to distinguish them by appearance?

When they are very young it can be hard. The Flying Fox has a slight tinge of yellow to their fins, the SAE has clear fins. I have a good link that details the differences. Do you think I can remember where I bookmarked it?? Arrghh. I can never remember anything! Let me go look and I'll get back to you!
