Fish compatability question!

I know what fish can go together with either caution, or just fine. My question is that if I wanted to have 5 different species of, let's say Tetras, together, can I have a congo tetra, kerri, red eye, and penguin and will they all school together, or will I have to buy 5-6 of each different one?

I'm getting a 55 gallon and currently have a 29 gallon tank, which I intend on putting these fish in them (sometime) (I will not have all of them, or even multiple):

GUPPIES
Red Blond Guppy
Blue Neon Guppy
Sunrise Guppy
Female Fancy Guppies/ Male Fancy Guppies

BARBS

Albino Tiger Barb
Neon Rosy Barb
Red Line Torpedo Barb
Longfin Rosy Barb
Cherry Barb

MOLLIES
Red Sailfin Molly
Dalmatian Sailfin Molly
Red Dalmatian Sailfin Molly

MISC.
Dwarf Gourami/Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami/ Red Fire Gourami/ Blue Paradise Fish
Boesemani Rainbow
Red Rainbow
Assorted Veiled Angelfish
Red Swordtail
Knight Goby
Glo-Fish
Spotted Raphael Catfish
Clown Loach
Rubbernose Pleco
Pearl Danio
Purple Passion Danio
Scissortail Rasbora
Rainbow shark

TETRACongo Tetra
Buenos Aires Tetra
Kerri Tetra
Rathbuni Green Bloodfin Tetra
Red Eye Tetra
Penguin Tetra

DISCUS
Blue Snakeskin Discus

These are just ideas of fish I'm looking at, I don't intend on having all of them, and an over-crowded tank!

I would have to say that groups of each individual species would be best. I have not seen a group of a single specimen of each school well. However, similar species may work, but not in a scheme as you have suggested.

Hmm. Okay, thanks!

So, do you think if I were to have three neon tetras and three red eye tetras, they would all school together? Or would they try to school in their own groups of the two?

I think that those fish do better in groups of 6 or more of each individual species. I doubt that either would thrive in a community of any fewer.

Oh poo. That means I can't have more different species. Oh well, I'll have happah fish! That's all I need.

Thank you for the input! :D

Not so much. Three or four will huddle together in fright. 6 or more (sometimes it takes 8, sometimes 10 - in general the faster and more aggressive, the more you need) will school.
