I recently noticed that my biggest denison barb developed a bright yellow stripe/spot on his/her anal fin. Same type of color that is on the tail fin. I have 4 denisons and only one has this marking. I have never seen one like it in pictures online either.
Anyone know anything about this?? Breeding colors? Genetic anomaly?
I've seen fish get them before ready to lay eggs or give birth. I've also seen them get those when agitated or stressed out, or even when breeding. Sometimes they stick around for a few days after they show up. It's not an ALWAYS thing, but I've had several that do get them, especially first time mothers just before they become such.
Make sure he doesn't have any dark spots in the belly that are not babies/eggs. Sometimes it means bleeding internally and it stains the anal fin on the way out, either due to injury or even a really poor diet.
