Considering Goldfish

SO... after being teased with the eye-candy on China's Finest Goldfish (a Vancouver goldfish retailer) I am really warming up to the guys. Perhaps for my birthday in May I will set up a goldie tank but before I even think about it I have a few questions to clear up:

1) Will 3 fancies (probably all fantails) in a 55g tank be okay? Is that sufficient space and will they have enough company between the three of them?

2) What filter would you recommend? I am considering an AquaClear 70 (or perhaps a 110 would be more suitable?) or maybe a Fluval 405 (although they are pricey and I hear a lot of complaints about noise). Would a biowheel work as well? I don't know too much about them. In any case, I am just looking for an economical, solid filter that brings a lot of bang for it's buck.

I am aware of the basics but is there anything else I should know?

Thanks in advance,
Kelly

The fantails will be fine. I personally like orandas and I am about to have 11-12 of them soon. But that's really your personal preference.

I'd look on filters that give a turnover rate 10 times the water volume. Biowheels can work especially if it aerates the water well. It's really your choice but some brands tend to become stuck up eventually and fail to work completely so be careful with your choice.

I think you can add one one more to your tank, especially if you have good filtration. I'm not fmailiar with the brands you listed though. Goldfish appreciate company and the more is merrier for them, as long as they have enough space and filtration is good.
