Comet Goldfish

At what size do comet goldfish become mature enough to breed? I'm just wondering as most comet goldfish you get in pet stores are only 2-3 inches long and these fish can get up to 12 inches given the right food and living conditions.

They should be sexually matured by at least a year or two. It's usually the age that comes, not the size and most goldfish are often stunted that even at a year or more of age, they show capability to breed but the resulting fry will not be at their best, most likely stunted as well.

Thanks. So getting a comet from the store I work at (Petsmart) would probably result in the fish being stunted? And how much water does a comet need? I'm far off from getting a pond but I always like to plan for when I finally do get a house hubby has already said we can have a pond.

it's harder to control the conditions in a pond then in an aquarium.so do research before you buy as to save what you love ;)
