Clarification on barbs and danios...

So I know I'm not supposed to mix tiger barbs with anyone with large, flowing fins. But in the tiger barbs profile it says they mix well with danios... Don't danios have flowing fins? Or is there some reason they get along? Or am I just thinking of the wrong danio?

Well there are danios and then there are long finned danios! I don't have tiger barbs but I don have cherry barbs, and mine get along well. I actually have a cherry with in indentity crisis, sometimes he scools with the danios and other times he schools with the tetras. But my dad has a tank with danios and tiger barbs, and they get along well, i've witnessed the danios chasing them around more than not, but just playing i suppose. But if you pair everyone up ok, there shouldnt be to much mingling between them. I would get the 6+ danios, they tend to stick together more, and mind there own business this way. Hope that helps...

There's plenty of danios that don't have flowing fins, it really depends on what type. It also depends on how many tiger barbs you have. The larger the group, the less they'll care about other fish. Cherry barbs aren't very nippy, so I'm not sure that's the greatest comparison.

Also, plenty of Danios are very quick, and most would be able to avoid the barbs. But, that doesn't mean you should still place them together. I dont see why there would be a problem. Good Danios that are small-finned and quick are Giant Danios and Zebra Danios.
