Cherry barbs breeding?

I have two cherry barbs and the female's stomach is getting big. They are with a good amount of other tropical community fish. If I put my barbs in a tank with fancy guppies would they have a better chance a t reproducing? I got 15 guppies, 2:1 females to males, would they eat the barbs eggs or make the barbs life any harder? Thanks

to be honest with you the barbs will nip the guppys fins as barbs seem to nibble anything that is long and frilly, i would say that the barbs will lay eggs but it is really hard to raise the fry, you can sometimes stimulate spawning by doing a water change that is 2oC cooler than your current tank water. i would feed the fry when they hatck on live brine shrimp whick you can sometimes buy from your local aquatic shop but if not ask them about brine shrimp eggs. the barbs eggs normally hatch within 4 days depending on the temperature of your water

hope this helps

I don't think cherry barbs will nip guppies. Cherries are extremely docile (especially as far as barbs are concerned) so I don't think you need to worry about aggression problems. They may eat very young guppy fry, though.

I have kept a pair of cherry barbs with 6 guppies and had no problems at all. My cherry barbs are very peaceful. Did you have any luck with the barbs spawning?

I agree. Cherry Barbs are not a nippy or otherwise aggressive fish. They are extremely docile and suited for almost any small fish peaceful community.
