Exclamation Cherry Barbs?

Ok, so I went to the store for some water conditioner and of course I just HAD to buy these cute little cherry barbs. They are very healthy, and all thats in the tank with them is 2 male lyretail guppies, and a snail so I didn't QT them. I have a 10 gallon tank, do they need more than 3? I was told that 3 was a very good number, but idk.. Also, they are all males, will they get really aggressive? Thanks!

I think five would be a good number for ten gal with the two guppies. I always liked cherry barbs and though they do chase each other around occasionally they never seem to do any harm.

The most important medication in your fish medicine cabinet is.. Clean water.

Oh, also, when I got my barbs they were all roughly the same color, but a week later, one is a dark brownish color, looking much more like a female.... are there an ways besides color to sex cherry barbs? Because I am having a hard time telling with this one

I'm not sure of any other way to sex them. It could be that the brownish one is just a subdominant male. You might want to consider returning one of the males and getting four or so females. Watching males compete for the attention of females is really interesting, plus males show their best colors when there are females around. It's important to have a 2:1 ratio of females to males to prevent the males from harassing the females too much.

male cherry barbs are best in larger groups or singles. they dont nip a lot like other barbs can (i.e tiger barbs), but they will chase around tankmates that are smaller than them. i think your tank size is a little too small for more cherry barbs, they like to chase and defend little territories. i would stick with the ones you already have.

the females are very distinct looking, and are brown, sometimes with a golden line along their side. the males are usually bright red-auburn.

its too small?????? I thought 5g was fine for cherry barbs, so so i got 10g.... hmmmm i don't really have any other room for them right now..... 10g is too small for 3 cherry barbs? Dang...... I really like those guys.... so its bad for them to live in a tank that small with just one guppy? (I did have 2, then I had to move one cuz she was being picked on)
