Cherry barbs

I was wondering if Cbs are schooling or if they prefer to be in groups. As of right now I have 1 male and 1 female, and was wanting to get more, as they have become a favorite in my tank. Is this a good idea or no?

hehe thats the same thing that happened to me i started with two and now have 4. i would get even more if i had the room.

they are kind of schooling fish.... they like to have buddies and will hang out at times but they dont HAVE to have a whole school. they arent like neons, and wont stay close together ALL the time but will sometimes.

i think you should definately get more. they are just soooo fun!

Ok thank you, I do believe I will end up gettn more. So as of right now my 2 cherry barbs are inthe back corner of the tank, they took tat over as soon as I released them in the tank! I have 6 neon tetras that stay at the bottom and 6 danios that stay at the top, i have a rubber pleco and loach that are at the bottom but stayt in hiding till at nihgt. So my question is what can I get to fll the middle, that will get along with everyone?

platies, mollies, rummynoses, blackskirt tetras, white cloud mountain minnows, columbian tetras, or any other small to medium size fish. are you looking for any certain color? are the fish above good or do you want other suggestions?

Cherry barbs like to be in groups of 6+, and it really brings their color out. I would suggest getting 2M and 4F, and the males will "dance" to show who the leader is, and it can be quite entertaining.

Ok well i had a female and male. The female was always in hiding, but was still very bossy. She took over a corner in the tank as soon as i freed her, its right between 2 plants. I figured it was because she was about to pop. The male was always schooling with the neon tetras and occassionally the danios. I think hes just looking for a new slimmer girl . But anyway I got another male and female, I was worried about the sex ration but figured I could alwy get more females if needed, but if they lay eggs amd hatch i might have females before i know it. Anyway as the story goes :D once the other barbs were in the tank my female came out to socialize!! I'm happy to see they are more confident and feeling better now!! Thanx, also I got a few mollies to fill the middle, although right now theyt are a lil bit everywhere being nosey. How can I tell sex of these fish and if they will breed??

mine came out more when i got another pair as well. i have 2 males and 2 females. i know you are suposed to have more males but my females are actually the bossy ones!

how many mollies did you get? i'm not sure how to tell their sex but if you do have a male and female i can almost garuante that they will breed.
