celestial pearl danio questions

Hi everybody, I used to have a betta in a 2.5 gallon tank and was looking for some new fish (not bettas) to go in it. I recently found some of these fish at the store and checked them out on here. In the profile I know it says that they should be in an 18 inch tank, but they're like half an inch. So I was just curious if these cool little guys could go in my tank. Thanks!

My fish tank has a betta in it-see any issues? The would be living with him- tank is planted and I know they can handle the bio-load. I can't see if they are nippy or not- or would be towards my Beta- any ideas?

A male Betta is quite a different thing from a female. A Betta deserves its own space; tankmates are usually problematic. Either the Betta will go after them--and given the size of the danio this is highly likely, mine ate neons--or the smaller danio will find it too tempting to resist nipping the Betta's fins.

Slow sedate fish like a Betta should not be combined with faster swimming fish like the danio.

We have this fish in our profiles, click the shaded name: Celestial Pearl Danio This is another species, like the Betta, that should be on its own in a species tank.

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If you’re going to take it under your wing then you’re responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]
