Hi,

I just lost all but one of my burmese boarder loaches which I was moving. I was hoping to get replacements of the exact same species but I can not find any place that sells them now. So is it okay if I put them in with another type of loach?

thanks,
Bryan

They might get along with other loaches but they probably won't school together. I'd get more of the same species if you can. A good LFS will probably have access to them through their suppliers even if they don't stock them regularly. I would ask if they could place an order for you. Since it's just a matter of the supplier adding a few fish to a big order there's usually no shipping fee involved and if the fish arrive to the LFS sick or DOA the LFS can deal with the supplier so you don't have to worry about it. Much more user-friendly (not to mention cheaper) than ordering fish yourself and having them shipped to you.

I agree. Your single species will most likely get along fine with other loaches but really needs some other tankmates of his own kind to feel really comfortable and happy. I just checked around online and I couldn't even find them readily for sale anywhere. Actually, I couldn't find them for sale anywhere.
If it were me and I wasn't able to aquire them through my LFS I would be scouring aquabid and everywhere else I could in order to find more so my solo specimen could be kept properly. But, that's just me and I'm a loach lover. :)
