Far as I know stuff just sets em off like water changes, diff water temps, stuff like that. Every so often I see my grown male harassing the girls and I see em spawn. I stopped saving the babies a while ago. They look like teeny tiny exclamation points without the dot and you need to do the spawning in a separate tank because they are IMPOSSIBLE to net safely, I've always been able to catch one or two that are still hanging around after a few days in a cup and move them but blah....they hatch after a couple days, stick to the glass (or somewhere else that's kinda secluded) for 36 hours and then become free-swimming.
