They do that when there aren't enough of their kind in the tank. What you're seeing is a battle for dominance, not mating. Boseman's, like other rainbowfish, should be kept in groups of at least eight to have normal behavior and activity. Boseman's are quite prolific breeders; nylon spawning mops hung in their tank will soon be full of eggs. The young aren't difficult to raise.
