Smile Barbs & Rainbow Fish??

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone has mixed barbs with rainbows? I have moved all my swordtails to another tank and have a 26 G Currently with 10 Barbs (5Cherry,5Golden) and 1 Roundtail Female Betta..

The tank is fully planted with alot of floating cover... I was wondering if i added a school of dwarf neon rainbow fish would barbs pick on them, even tho they are cyprinids aswell? my barbs fin nipped the swordtails alot and stressed them out.. I hope it wont happen if i add rainbows..? lol

I think your grouping is at the minimum to keep aggression down. I would probably recommend adding another pair cherrys and gold rather than introducing a new fish to the tank, considering its size.

I was thinking about this some more, and because it is heavily planted, you might be able to get away with adding 1 or 2 more of each barb, and possibly another 5 fish that would be mostly bottom dwelling fish, as long as they were peaceful, and appropriate for your tank size. Something to look into I suppose. We should see what others have to say. It would sure make your tank look better I think.

Me too. Be careful with loaches though as most need at least a 55g tank. I have 5 YoYo;s in one of my 55's I love them. I have a 20g I am setting up now, right now just have 5 neon tetras in it, but I will be getting 5 panda corys and I am going to try real hard to get a Bolivian ram
