Attention: Galaxy Rasbora Update

In the July issue of TFH, there is an excellent article on the "Galaxy Rasbora". First of all, It has been renamed Celestichthys maragaritus which means "heavenly fish adorned with pearls". It was found that this fish more closely resembled those in the danio family than those in the rasbora group. It was also noted that the fish has been located in many more pools than originally believed. It has also been found to be easy to breed. (I currently have a colony which is providing viable spawns.) So, although we must be aware of potential problems, the alarm is not as disconcerting as originally thought.
Buy the magazine, read the article.

Which mag is this? I just read an article on the Galaxy Rasbora in Aquarium USA. It's funny you posted this now.

I'm fairly intrigued by this fish. The patterning on it is just superb. I saw a school at my LFS like a month ago and they weren't labeled. I asked one of the clowns working what they were called, and no one knew. :/

Then again though, they were just recently officially classified, iirc.

Oh I see it. I'm happy to see there is more than just one mag out there. My lfs only carries Aquarium USA, and I can't find ANY other anywhere around here. It's still a decent mag though, the issues are pretty thick. Subscription to USA is only $19.99 for a year, I think I'll just subscribe soon rather than keep buying it issue by issue.

edit - is TFH strictly Tropical Fish?! I understand 'Tropical' is in the name, but there are articles on reef tanks too it looks like.

Cause I would really like that. :D

Not strictly just tropical fish. I've read the last TFH mag seven years ago and it has articles for marine tanks but it seems to concentrate generally on freshwater. I can't say for those present magazines until I receive the latest from Herefishy.;)

Tropical Fish Hobbiest magazine is arguably the finest aquarium hobbiest periodical on the market. It covers everything from the beginner aquarium to the most exotic planted tank to rare and exotic freshwater and saltwater biotopes and their inhabitants. I subscribe to about five different magazines, and it is my opinion that TFH sets the standard for all to measure up to.

Hello!! i have just joined, so don't really know what i am doing.
i was wondering if any one could help me? i'm trying to breed my Galaxy Rasboras, don't really know where to start, any hints, tips or information would be much appreciated.

I currently have (3) colonies that are now producing. I have found, through my own experimentation which was also substantiated in the TFH article, that these beauties take almost no care. The water in the breeding tanks is now neutral (7.0 pH), non-heated, no substrate, sponge filters, and Java Moss. One tank still has marbles in the bottom to keep the parents from possibly consuming the eggs, but I have not seen any evidence of them doing this. Each colony consists of about 12-20 adults.
