Another loach thread...Lone Yo-Yo Botia Loach?

I bought an awesome looking yo-yo loach, still very small, and I asked the guy at the LFS whether they are okay on their own with no other loaches in the tank. He said they do fine by themselves and there's no need to buy more than one. Well, I just read that they should be in groups of 3 minimum. So my question is:

How bad is it to just keep the poor loner loach in my tank with no mates? I only have a 30 gallon and I don't think the bottom has the capacity to house two more once they're full grown.

I really like him...I want to keep him! But what are the repercussions of keeping him alone?

This is why I do my research BEFORE I got to the store! I learned my lesson again!

My yoyo loaches are my favorite of all my fish. You can't help but laugh, watching them interact and "play".
I honestly, would not keep one alone. Now you have a reason to buy a bigger tank.

I agree with Twistersmom. I keep a group of seven and they are a riot. I'd get two more for your solo loach as playmates and then upgrade your tank when the time comes. Is your current stock what shows under your aquarium log? If so, I only see one bottom dweller, that being your BN. Three small yoyos would be fine in a 30gl for some time. JMHO.

PS. I just noticed you have cherry shrimp in your tank. Loaches love eating inverts so don't be surprized if your shrimp go *missing*.

Thanks...I'll go get a couple more. He (or she) already started trying to "hang out" with the leopard danios. I'll get two more and also have an excuse to rearrange my tank set up a little (more places to hide). More plants, maybe?

I'm not attached to the shrimp...one of them was pregnant when I added it to the tank so I'm sure the loach and probably everyone else in there had a nice snack.
