My tank has been up and running for about four months now and I'm ready to get my algea eater. I currently have 3 bettas (1 male, 2 female), 2 Redtailed Black Variatus, 2 Balloon Belly Molly, and I Redtail Dalmation Molly in a 20 gallon tank. The store I went to recommended either a Golden Algea Eater or a pair of Otocinclus...just wondering if anybody had a suggestion on which would be better?!
20 Gallon Hexagon:
3 Bettas (1 male, 2 female)
2 Redtail Dalmation Platys
2 Redtailed Black Variatus
A " Golden Algea Eater" Is also called a " Chinese Algea Eater" And from experience I have found out that they realy arent that great in algea eaters and are slow growers. Even at a small age they will try to swim up and attach to your fishy's sides to there mucus membrane...They will get worse when older too. So definetly go with the otto's if thats wat they have. Because you could always go with a bristienose.....and than add a * fancy pleco * later ;)
55 Gallon:1 Baby Bristlienose,1 Swordtail, 1 Bala Shark, 2 Common Pleco, 2 Clown Loaches, 2 angel fish,3 (look a like) rasbora Tetra's, 4 Black Skirt Tetra's, 4 Long-finned Gold Zebra Danios, 4 Cardinal Jumbo Tetra's,6 Red Eye Tetra's, 7 neon tetra's
10 Gallon Nano Reef:1 Chocolate Starfish, many snails...Work is in progress...err
Yeah what flattrack said; I work in a pet store (selling fish) and i never recommend the chinese algae eaters. In my own experience i have seen them suck the slime off fish (and the fish died, they were black moors) :( Plecs are the best, but if your tank is small, go for otocinclus.
You know what the definition of hobby is: something of interest that is going to cost you lots of money!
