Aggressive Zebra Danio?

Are these fish known to be aggressive? Right now, I've got three. I just lost one this morning :( Before he died, I noticed scratches on him and he ended up becoming bent. Literally. Looked like someone rammed into his side, so he was almost a right angle until he died.

Now, I'm noticing that one of his tankmates is getting a little scraped up. I also notice that one of them keeps swimming quickly towards his two tankmates, like he's threatening them. I've never heard of these fish being aggressive. Is there a solution? Should I isolate the seemingly pissed off one? I don't want him killing one of my other fish.

Yes, they are well known to be aggressive, especially in an incomplete school. That is pretty standard behavior for the circumstances. They need to be in a larger school, so if your tank cannot accommodate 6 more, then I would return the ones you have left.

I am not disagreeing with the fellow posters here, they are right.. but it could be there is some other problem, maybe an issue with your water quality, or some disease thats taken hold that is causing the erratic behaviour. And not aggression at all.

How many do you have? what other inhabitants? are everyone else ok?

Whats your water parameters etc.

I have a group of 7 danios in my 29g and they are active, but I've never seen all out aggression. now my platys... they are awful, its almost disturbing to watch. couldn't be rid of those pesky things soon enough. But the danios are fine.

I should have been more specific to separate the two issues, as Simon is quite correct. My comments were aimed at the interaction between the fish, which should be lessened with sufficient numbers (if space allows). The initial issue with the demised fish (bent spine, etc) is likely something different. I see this in a fish occasionally.
