Question 55g tank w/ common goldfish?

I heard from an unreliable (but sometimes correct) sorce that the maximum amount of common goldfish for a 55g tank is 2. Believeable, but I wanted to make sure. My brother got stuck with some commons, and he wants to care for them alot better. He has one that is 5 1/2" in a 5g (i know, it is terrible), and a 1 1/2 - 2" goldfish in an unfiltered bowl.

Just another question, can white cloud minnows live with goldfish, or would they be feeders? Thanks!

A 55g might do for a while, but the rule of thumb for adult commons is more like 80g per fish, unfortunately. I have 2 half-size fancies in a 50g right now and they do a pretty good job of mucking it up by water change day.

Man, that would cost a fortune new. Would an 80g work for 2 commons, or is that just for 1?

Anyway, I'll keep mt eye on Craigslist and see what I can find. Thanks!

Just 1. What a lot of people do is purchase a Rubbermaid feeding trough for about $100 and make a pond out of it. Likewise, making a pond out of pretty much anything doesn't have to be an expensive ordeal if you stick to pond liner, allan blocks and aquatic soil.

This guy is planning a tub pond for is comet, it might do you good to talk to him.

So how big are the feeder troughs? Do you know where I could find them?

With slow fancies, maybe. Anything else, no.

To add Kelly's info, fiberglass tubs may be considered for singletails.

You'll want to look at farm equipment shops, maybe Home Depot, or check Craigslist. I'm not sure how many gallons they are, easily over 100. It might say if you look the product up on an online store.

Do you think the feeder would work for 2 common goldfish? Has anyone ever priced a pond filter (I haven't)? Just trying to get a general idea of the cost. My brother doesn't really have a whole lot of spending money right now.
