Try a guppy and cardinal tetra tank.

I will never recommend guppies to anyone. They are breeding factories and look ugly IMO. Way too common as well. You will be loaded with fry if you get one female, no matter what or where.

Neons have been known to nip bettas.
Glowlights the same.
Black Neons the same.
Cherry Barbs the same, and they need to be in a decent group. They are very spazzy too.
Shrimp are good, if you have live plants and/or algea.
White Cloud Minnows are coldwater fish (though do ok in low-tropical)
Platys will breed and breed and breed and pollute the tank with fry over a while. They are very messy, as well.

I didn't read about there being a betta in the tank. Are you trying to find good companions for a betta, or just starting this tank from scratch?

Oh, oops. I wast thinking of a different thread.

Both Neons would work. Glowlights should. A handful of Cherries would be really fun, espically if you get two or three males with 6 females.

I still say no on Platies and White Clouds.

My 10 gal. got some female bettas and guppies in it. I also added some kuhli loaches a few days ago. Female bettas are really docile compared to males and the females can have more than one in a tank. Plus, they're really colorful, which, if put alongside guppies, will really make a ten gallion stand out. Kuhli loaches look cool and stay pretty small, making them good for a ten gallon.

That is not 100% true. I have seen many female bettas rip apart other fish's fins, and will not tolerate others any any specie into their tank. They can be just as mean as male bettas.
