I've always heard that they are, and I know a couple of people who keep them in reefs without issue.

I did some online research, and it varies between websites. The most common thing I found was that they are reef safe when they are little, but as they grow, they can attack small fish, anemones and corals.

That's the same thing that I heard. Small=Reef...Large=Mystery of the Disappearing Fish

ANY crab will be on the fence with being reef safe or not. this includes hermits ( which have no problem killing snails for their shells ) even if a crab appears to be doing good, given the chance it will get ahold of what it can when it can. out of all of the crabs if i were to add any it would be a porcelain personally.
