rock construction question....

I have had my tank up and running for a couple on months and my rock formations had been stable. I have recently added a diamond golby into my tank and noticed that he loves to dig the sand out from the rocks to see what is under them. My question is, is there an easy way to connect live rock so my formation wont fall apart (again)? I have herd you can use crates on the bottom of the tank - but at this point i dont really want to try to bury it with all the sand already in there.

thanks

It really depends on your rock. I have used cable ties effectively on many different setups, but some rocks are not porous enough to allow for the ties to be used. I have seen setups in which the aquarist actually drilled holes into the rock prior to setting up the display, and then used cable ties or rods to secure the rock.

I agree, you would not want to use egg crate on the bottom of the tank, given that you already have the sand in place. Is this a reef tank or a FOWLR? How deep is the sand bed. You may find that simply adding more sand could create enough depth for the needed stability. However, increasing the depth of the sand bed runs risks of its own.

its a start of a reef tank. the sand bed is maybe 3-4", i used 60lbs for a 55 gallon tank.

what do you mean by "cable ties"?

Thanks for your reply
