Red Mushroom Coral won't open

Does anyone have any experience with Red Mushroom Corals?

I bought a small one about 3 weeks ago. For the first few days it was open and seemed rather happy. However after that it closed up and doesn't open at all. I can see the out edges move every now and then but it just doesn't open fully. I know my water parameters are top notch as my other coral is growing really well.

It isn't in contact with any other coral so no stinging. The fish i've got (2 clowns, 2 yellow tail damsels and 1 Yellow tang) don't touch it at all. My snails and cleaner shrimp don't pick at it either.

It is in a medium location in the tank with good water flow across it. It was lower but I moved it up. I did this after it had been closed for 10 days perhaps thinking it might need more light. I have two 54W T5 bulbs, 1 white, 1 blue actinite.

Thanks,
Chris

i'd like to have your top noch tank defined if you don't mind. Nitrate, phosphates, SG, dkh, and so forth. what other corals do you have? What size tank is this?

OK fair enough. Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate all 0. Alk 11, pH = 8.3, Ca = 420-440ppm, salinity = 1.023, temp 82-83F. My tank is a 55gal.

I add 2.5ml of Iodide twice per week. 5ml of Kent Marine Essential Elements every two weeks, 5ml Strontium & Moly every 4 days, 5ml of Kent Marine Liquid Calcium every day or as needed to keep at above levels.

I have a small birdnest (2") Yellow Polyps, 3 Xenia, small Red Cap, Pink Zoas, dragons eye zoas & Bubble tip anemone. The mushroom is the only one and not near any of the others. By that it is is mid water and a good 8-12" from any other coral. It has never been in reach. I've got about 80lb of live rock and a 5" live sand bed.

The fish get fe twice per day. I alternate with nutrafin max marine flakes and Ocean Nutrition Formula 2 Marine Pellets. Once per week they get a cube of brine shrimp.

mushrooms don't like that much water flow. it causes them to cling to the rock and do not open fully. the do not require as much light as the xenia. I dunno what color temp ur white light is but mine seem to enjoy the 6700K lights and they spread the widest when that light is on during the daytime. My red mushroom is about 5 inches in diameter. I love them
