oh absolutely, the most common explanation that I've heard for the anemone splitting is stress triggers it, and the split is a survival mechanism.

I mean just looking at my anemone over the past few weeks, it obviously wasn't happy. If it (I guess "they "now) ends up not surviving, then at least I can say I tried everything I could, I was given a really sickly anemone to begin with :(. But I'm happy that he finally got up off his butt and moved for once, he literally hadn't budged since I put him in.

I'll give more frequent updates now that he's split, if anything of note happens in between the weekends. I expect him to stay 'hidden' for the next few days while he recovers from the split, then hopefully he and his clone can move to where THEY want to be, and I'll feed them some silversides and try to help them recover the best I know how.

sorry for no update this past weekend... I was on vacation in Florida! No new pics, the anemone has retreated into the rocks following the split (as I expected), so I will snap some new shots once it re-emerges.

Interestingly, the anemone ended up splitting into three! The first split left one larger anemone and one smaller anemone, then later that day the smaller anemone split yet again to leave two really small ones.

Hopefully this marks a turn-around in its health, time will tell.

They also split when they are stressed out. If the tempt changes or if a chemical inbalance occures, it can cause this too... or if it's healthy and it's just time to split. Not sure about this instance, but that's awesome you now have 3... you don't ship right

I assume it was from stress, I mean just based on how he's looked. He was making a decent recovery until the move, and after that he seemed to recede and then kind of "stabilize" at a not-very-good looking state. The split happened over a month after the move, so it wasn't immediate but perhaps he was just unhappy.

As far as water quality goes, I keep it as good as I can, at least the things I can test for. Salinity, pH, Alk, Calcium, and Magnesium are all stable and in good ranges, and I haven't let nitrates get over 5 yet. There may be something else amiss with the water, but I don't have any visibility into that if that's the case .

One thing I'm optimistic about, is that now that he's moved (I gotta get used to saying "they" instead of "he" now lol), they can situate themselves wherever they want once they come back out. If the light was a problem before, at least now they're moving about and can get to where they are happy. Keeping my fingers crossed!

I'll make you a deal kells, if these guys make a good recovery over the next few months, and you are still interested, I'll send you one for free. That's a big "IF" as far as their recovery unfortunately . I think if I were to ship one now or soon, it's perish for sure. I'll do everything I can to nurse them back to health though!

I believe that one way to encourage a split is to feed them very well which it appeared you were doing. I hope they all come around. That would be erally great.
