Positive ID please??

Okay, as the story goes . . .I got what I thought was a gonipora from a guy I know, for cheap, though he said it was a Galaxia, but I didn't think so. I told him today, that I believe it is a gonipora, but he's telling me no way it is that. Hmmm So, I've included a pic of what I know to be my Galaxia, against what I think is a gonipora, despite being told no it's not. Any thoughts from you all out there?? I previously have posted my pics of this, and didn't have anyone disagree with me, now I need to see if there are other opinions.

I think I'm right. If not, I'd sure like to know what I have. Pics below :)

Wow, that is hard to tell but every image I look up for the Goniopora shows the polyps thicker and open with the tentacles displayed. The Galaxea seems very much like the second image, but then again there are several images of them looking like both images. Eh, Im no expert, Im just an enthusiast, to me, you are lucky to have them both as they are both beautiful.

Gwen, I assume the coral in question is on the left? Can you post a closer pic of the polyps? I want to say Torch from what I am looking at...

Okay, this pic is with a better camera. Others are with my iphone. The way the first post looks to me, the Galaxia is on the top (that one I'm sure of). If it doesn't look that way to you, the coral in question, is with the PJ Cardinal in the picture above.

Here's a close up of polyps. Thanks! I don't think it's a torch.

Careful with the galxea corals as they can eradicate other corals within sweeper tentacle distance...and they have pretty long sweepers.

Based on the pictures in this thread: Todays purchase - Purple Gonipora (these are the same coral in question, right?) I do think it is a Goniopora. When that thing is fully extended though, it looks like a Galaxea...

Thanks. I read that some have short polyps and some long, so I think it's a Gonipora too. It has that "flower pot" appearance, that a Galaxia doesn't. And yes, this is the same coral from my other post. Looking way different from when I first got him.

After looking at the other post, I am very sure on Goniopora. It is a nice looking specimen either way and is opening beautifully for you.

Either way, a great addition to your tank!

I realize I didn't update this post. Here's my info I added from another thread. This is not a gonipora after all.

Okay, the mystery is solved. Found this link, and it's an identical picture to my LPS, which I thought was a gonipora. Oh well. I was really wanting some purple, but he's definately going to have green tips. At least he's "happy" in my tank. I already have a galaxia, but this one is a bit different species. I think the name Tooth, Star Coral does fit.
