So I saw some corals for sale in the paper. I called the guy kind of interested but Ive never had any corals and he has all different kinds. I just want some advice, I guess, from someone who knows corals quite well before I go look at them. Im not too familiar with fragging either... yep... Ill take any advice anyone can throw at me lol
he has all sorts of types. he mentioned leather which ive been interested in for a while, but i dont know. he named off like 50 different types that he has, n i cant recall most of them. my tank is a 55 gal but im moving up to a 100 gallon very soon. i have lots of live rock, and i have 10 damsels, 2 tangs, 2 clowns, 2 starfish, 4 peppermint shrimp, 2 camel shrimp, 6 herm crabs, 4 emerald crabs, and one turbo snail. i also have 6 different light bulbs but i have 2 zoo med bulbs, one ocean sun (10000k) and reef sun (50/50). i dont know a whole lot about the lighting that they need but if you let me know what the are going to require i wont hesitate to go out and buy it.
first thing that I would say is that is a lot of fish if you want to get into doing corals. I would get a fish trap and take out some of the damles that are not your favorit. your soft corals are you best chance. I live in florida and the big thing I have a problem with is my water temp. YOur water temp needs to be very stable. as far as lighting it sounds like you want to stay with some lower light corals. Placement in the tank is so important. you need to do some resurch on water flow that the coral will need and also light intensity higher in the tank or lower. I hope this has helped some.
Check out my new setup.
