longspine is spewing white strands

So today i was watching my longspine urchin and he started spewing white strands everywhere, I thought maybe it was poop but he did it for like 2 minutes. It was coming out around that eye thing. Anyone know what it is?

It may perhaps be releasing gametes into the water column. I remember taking care of certain urchin species that did this when there was a temperature fluctuation. Has your water temp. changed over the past couple of days? I don't know where the gametes are specifically released from but that big eye thing is most likely the anus of the urchin. They do have eyes, but usually in the form of light sensitive eye spots. Hope that helps!

no it is I have never heard of captive breed urchins plus even if it was possible you would need 2 of them and one be male other female some say you can tell which is which by how bright the blue spots on their body are
