My 65 gallon tank has been running for 2 months with LR, a cleaner shrimp, and a gobi. I would like to add an anemone, but I am not sure if my lighting is adequate. I am currently using the original light that the tank came with, and I am unsure about the wattage. Will this stock lighting suffice :?: I am also curious if there is a certain anemone more suitable for beginners.
My friend hasn't had luck with anemones...she has halide lighting...but I gather they're still not enough...she needs to increase her lighting somehow...
i used to want an anemone, luckily for me youtube people told me not to (not in a very polite way mind you)
You need strong light, very strong, something like Mh lights mixed with PC/T5 lights to keep anemones, you need a new fixture not a new bulb, can cost you maybe 500 dollars. Also your tank isnt mature enough, it needs to be up and running for at least a year before you can successfully add an anemone.
I would recommend you starting off with a condy like the pink tip anemone, clowns dont usually host them but they are easy to care for.
if you get better lighting and get an anemone you need to beware that it will move. then if there are any corals in your tank you will have to move the corals do the anemone wouldnt sting it. its better to just not get one.
i have a condylactis that i got about a month ago and they're supposed to have high lighting. i have power compacts and my lighting is considered moderate. i feed it a few times a week as well and it's doing great. it kept moving behind my tank and hiding as well but eventually it found a crevice between my rocks and is showing beautifully right in the middle. i'm a beginner in this and i've been lucky with this anemone.
I have had a Pink tip Bubble Tip Anemone in my tank for 3 years which split about 2 years ago, my lighting is T8 with VHO tubes & they are doing great
Maybe I am lucky or the the BTA (Entacmaea quadricolor) are easier to keep, which I have read in various articles
I only feed them know and again because they are starting to out grow my 4ft tank
Hope this helps in any way
cheers
