I am a newbie on blue hermit crabs

I have a 33 gallon tank. Ive gone thru the first cycle.
I have 5 hermits now. 19 lbs of live rock. I know I need to add more.
I was wondering now, do these hermit crabs eat the new growth on the live rock (what ever it might be- eg. feather dusters)? I see them chopping on the rocks and I am not sure what it is they are eating. I would like to see what these rocks will produce if anything.Which will take I don't know how long. (?)
As well can I feed them Algae pellet food?

Opinions will vary on anything that you ask but mine is: hermits are scavengers and will eat almost anything. My tank is alot bigger 680ltrs and i have many hermits but they all seem to stay on the substrate. my live rock looks good with many feather dusters and little corals growing. Your tank is pretty new so i would not be worrying just yet, as for food maybe once a week if there is nothing else in the tank. Just my opinion but i hope what you do works out.

And my hermits stay on the rocks. I fed them a couple of shrimp pellets wow they went to town on it. As you say lets wait and see.
