ok, so what size tank would you reccomend for 3-5 hermit crabs? should I have water and land, only water, only land? Is there any place to get captive bred hermit crabs? Is reptile sand or marine sand better for them? Is there anything I should know about hermit crabs? Thanks!
there are different kinds of hermit crabs. all land crabs ( which still require alittle dish of water and a constant wet sponge ) and full marine crabs which stay underwater at all times. i think reptile sand will be fine for land crabs and i personally would use the marine for the full marine crabs because it contains buffers. keep in mind, full marine means your going to have to keep the salinity at resonable levels.
i know in NJ they sell the land crabs all the time at the shore and full marines all the time at my LFS
The pet store land kinds which are ugly IMO and shouldn't be called pets (no offense),
or the LFS full marine kind that are used for algae/dead fish/etc cleanup in a reef.
Thanks, none taken, I am just exploring options. I plan to have one smallish tank that is not a fish only tank... Idk if I'll actually gonna end up getting any
hi
i kept some land hermit crabs some time back.
there are some websites out there ,where people take pride
in sowing off the painted shells that they give the crabs, and some interesting
tanks that are their homes.
i think the only time they are ugly is when they shed their skin, they look like a
*cough cough* certain nasel deposit.
lol, idk, i think I might just stick to fishy tanks for now then! lol thanks guys
