Hard Vine Growth on Rock

In the past few months i've noticed hard vine like growth coming off of my rocks, if i grab rock the jab or give a nice poke to the hand. i have no idea what they could be and have no idea what they could be...picture soon as i get a camara.

Sounds to me like it's the calcerous shells of colony fan worms, AKA feather dusters, and or vermatid worms.
