got the shaft

I have a 65 gallon tank it has 10 red leg hermits 3 emeral crabs a six line wrasse 2 clown and a yellow tang ( I know he should be in a bigger tank). But want to get a piece of coral so I went to my local pet store and picked out a nice looking one. I asked the guy who was working I want a beginner coral is this one and is it hardy, he said yes. It is a green goniopora. When doing research it is aparently very difficult I am good with fish and inverts but never had much luck with coral. It has been two days and it was closed up. My mesurments are nitrate 0 calcium 340 carbon hardness 125.3 phosphate .25 ph 8.3 nitrite 0 ammonia 0. Should I just give it back with out refund? I hate watching thing die

id return it. do your research. most dept. stores will sell because they dont know anything about the fish. the just work there..... this is what i hate the 2nd most. the first is that they are experienced fish keepers who are working at the lfs and yet they will sell it to you knowing it will die so you could buy another one. what i hate the most.... selling you false things... should look it up before you buy ANYTHING..... ive learned it the hard way. live rock -.- had to deal with aiptasia, fish lice and marine itch at once.....so from experience research first. and do FOWLR....till you have a complete set of things b4 u buy corals.... read read read.. its one of the best thing in the aquarium trade.

Yeah I would return it. I have 4 t5s on my 65g, I wonder maybe if you need more lighting. 65g's are pretty deep. Gonipora is an LPS which usually need lots of light.

if you are going for starters id go with zooanthids, mushrooms etc.... it usually gets harder as you get into polyps

well

if they are what is usualy sold as button polyps then they are probably palythoas or protopalythoas.both of wich are relatively easy to keep ..especialy to goniapora or aleviapora.post a pic and we will give you a heads up.you can speed up growth on palys with feedings.

My very first coral was a frag of green/black Palys. Where are they at in your tank? I have mine about halfway up but I have 2x the lighting you have.
