Right now we have a small salt water tank with live rock, fish only; soon to upgrade to a larger tank.

Anyway, the purpose of this thread is to ask how to feed our newly added black brittle starfish and tiger serpent starfish.

I've done a bit of research online but most of it talks about stars in the ocean, which feed on detrius and molusks for the most part.

Does anyone know what we could possibly feed them by hand or feeding syringe?

Thanks!

I read that they are tremendous scavengers and will feed on waste in an aquarium and that they also like to be fed the same foods you are feeding your fish. Rather than depend on the internet for info I always prefer to hear from people who have actually have kept/ or keep the animals. I'm sure someone will come along soon who knows first hand about feeding them.

You don't necessarily need to feed them.Considering the fact that you have fish in the tank, they should be fine finding food on their own. My brittles are always right up front and center,(most of the time) and when they are, I usually give them a couple flakes. The way to do this is either take tweezers or just use your thumb and index finger, and pinch the food. Then I just put the food near or touching one of their legs and they grab hold of it. It is cool to watch their legs all work together and transport the food back to their mouth. Oh and as to what to feed them, they will eat nearly any fish food.

Good Luck!
