Feather duster growing on hermit crab shell?

I have what appears to be a tiny transparent feather duster growing on the shell of my largest scarlet hermit crab. I have yet to get a decent picture of it but it certainly appears to be a tiny feather duster.

Is this common? Is he just hitching a ride to get some free food from the hermit as it eats?

I will get the wife to take a good picture of it tonight.

Once we have a photo to view it will be much easier to determine for sure what it is. There are lots of hitchhikers in the marine world.
