Crocea Clam moving a lot

Hi all,

I have had a Crocea Clam in my tank for about 4 months now and it has been doing fine - has grown two new layers of scallops on its shell.

It is in a 12 Gallon Nano reef tank. The only thing that has changed since I got the clamis that I changed the lights last weekend. originally, I only used the lights that came with the tank: one 24 watt white cfl and one 24 watt actinic cfl. Last week I got a strngoer light that uses two 40 watt cfls, one white one actinic.

About three days ago, the clam turned itself 180 degrees. Since then, every few hours, the clam turn between 45 - 90 degrees. Today it started moving forward so that now I can see the bysal (spelling?) strands stretched out behind it.

since introduction of the new light, the clam is also exposing moe of its mantle. Except ofr this and the movement, it is acting fairly normal - reacting to shadows, cclosing completely when startled, etc.

The clam is on a rock about 6 inchs below the surface on the edge - so if it drops, it goes straight to the bottom of hte tank.

Is all this movement normal? Is it possible that there is too much light? Will it jump off the cliff? Should I try to move it to a new spot, or leave it alone?

Any advice would be aprpreciated.

Thanks!!!

Your lighting is quite weak for a Crocea. Try to place it right at the top of the tank with something firm to settle into.

I don't have a pen.

Sounds like the clam isn't use to the lights that you have on it now and it's aggitating the clam. try using a lower photo period in your tank. if you're running it at 12 hours just use 4hours a day then 6 in 3 days ect. in short you're burning the clam.

another thing you can do is put something that diffuses the light, like a screen. put like 3 on it then every 3days move one and do this until it's back to straight light.

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea...
