Crab molting...

Hey everyone...

So I almost crapped my pants today when I found all my hermits and snails narshing on my emerald crab....
After fending them off I noticed a little trap-door looking thing on the crab and then it hit me that the crab must have molted and it's probably hiding...

Well here's my question... When the shrimp molts I've heard that it's best to leave the shell in the tank for the shrimp to consume for iodine. Should I do the same thing with the crab shell? This emerald crab is pretty huge, and the shell is surprisingly thick and I'm not sure if it will decompose, or whether it will just be a nutritious calcilicious snack for other inverts... What are your thoughts on this...

Should I leave it in or take it out?

29 Gallon Reef 20G FW lake tank
2 Ocellaris clownfish 2 Pumpkinseed sunfish
1 Sixline wrasse A lot of driftwood
1 Peppermint shrimp A lot of foliage
1 Longspine urchin Penguin 330 power filter
Various soft corals, LPS, & SPS.

In progress: Arduino based aquarium controller

I always take my molts out, whether it be crab or shrimp. I'm just afraid it would cause a nitrate spike.

Plus, all my inverts are too lazy to even want to consume their molts.

Actually, I decided to leave it in overnight just because my snails and hermits were having so much fun with it... This morning I looked at it and it was picked clean! Actually it looks really cool because all the dirty stuff is gone and the shell is a really shiny, new-looking green... Thanks for your help, and if nothing's happening later i'll probably just take it out...
