coral health

hey guys i have 3 corals in my tank two are Zoanthids and one is a colt coral. the one that im having a problem with is one of the Zoanthids, only about half of the polyps are opening compared to when i first got it all of them opened. the question im trying to get at is how can u tell is a polyp dies? so far they look normal no colour differration between the ones that do open. so are there any other tell signs?

thanks for the help

It could be something is bothering them or too much/little current. You can take them out and do a quick freshwater dip to see if there are any nidibranches or sea spiders on them.

hey ya i move him into more current and more light spot and it seems to be doing better. also i think he was having a hard time getting to his food because i dont have a syringe or turkey baster to spot feed them yet.

There is no need to spot feed Zoas, they will grab what they can out of the water column. Also, when it dies it basically just disolves away.

Yea, my Softie has shed its upper layer once or twice. It goes down for 2-3 days, sheds, then is right back. I don't know what it is, thats why i did not answer.

you never posted your alk, cal, mag levels and other water params so without knowing them, yes i have seen colts (which im assuming is kenya tree ) close up for a few days. for me, usually leathers shed every once in a while.
if it is not being stung by another coral and water quality, lighting and flow arnt of concern i wouldnt be to worried. if it doesnt open up in week, try a new location in the tank.

sry no pic as my camera is stil being fixed ( why things have to break when u drop them sigh). anyhow about the water parameters ph is around 8.1 as for the rest i dont have a test kit for them. i was told at big als that colt corals didnt need cal or mag supplements
